The 2016 season has kicked off. As I stated in the last newsletter I would periodically bring the membership up to date on the running of the club. The following committee assignments have been made:

As everyone knows we are a volunteer organization and it takes all members to participate to insure the success of the club and to maintain the proud heritage of the club. If any member is interested in supporting any of the committees please feel free to contact the committee chairperson listed above.
Another topic that was discussed in the last newsletter was the updating of the website to make it more user friendly. We were hoping to have the new site up and operational by January but there will be a short delay. The old web site OGYC.net is still in use and most of the 2016 forms and applications will be posted on that site.
Since the last newsletter the club has been winterized, the ice-eaters are installed to prevent any damage to the marina pilings due to ice. Thanks to Tim McNeilly and Lee Gashlin we were able to do the necessary dredging around the marina at a significant cost savings. Thanks Tim and Lee.
For several years, the executive board has discussed the need for an updated Club rental agreement. Thanks to the efforts of our Trustees and the Executive Committee that agreement has been finalized and is being used for all hall rentals starting January 1st, 2016.
If any member or groups of members have any other suggestions, please feel free to let me know.

I hope everyone had a great holiday season.
Even during these quiet months the members of the executive board have been meeting monthly and working hard, behind the scenes, to maintain the clubs infrastructure and upgrade the clubs amenities…
I would like to thank everyone for all the volunteer hours that have been contributed to getting these tasks accomplished.
As the new Vice Commodore I am getting acquainted with the specifics of the junior sailing program of our club. The past few years have included many changes, enhancing what we have had through the years and starting new trends with the intent to increase an interest in sailing on the Barnegat Bay.
The sailing committee will soon be meeting to review the necessary criteria critical to the establishment of our upcoming 2016 sailing program. We will maintain the eight week sailing program with the Opti C’s, Opti B’s, Opti A’s, Sunfish, Lasers and possibly 420’s. In addition, this year, there is an exciting new double handed boat that is being introduced to sailors between the ages of 11and 15. We hope to have the FEVA at our club one week during this summer for anyone who would be interested in the opportunity to take the challenge.
The sailing committee will review the two week, four week, half day and Puddle Duck programs. The focus will always be on the basics of sailing including how to rig a boat, general seamanship and basic racing information. If you are interested in participating and have not yet contacted me please do so Asap.
With a little hard work and some serious volunteerism we can also work to re- institute adult lessons one night a week. Keep in mind that No experience is necessary! We hope to again increase sailing interests and help our parents to understand the sport of sailing for their own personal enjoyment and to educate parents about how to sail so they can use this knowledge as a tool when assisting the children with their sailing.
Additional information will be sent out to all members in future emails providing more details. Any members interested in these programs, please contact me by email at firstname.lastname@example.org (please indicate “sailing lessons” in the subject line). For many of our senior memberships you might consider your grandchildren for a two week program.

Happy New Year to all! The New Year’s Eve party at the club was very successful with 45 members and 38 guests in attendance. After all expenses the party had a net profit of 1,300. plus dollars.
Looking forward to February we have Super Bowl Sunday on the 7th, and soup night hosted by Paul and Rosemary on the 20th. Super Bowl still has no host, anyone interested in hosting an event can call me at 732-575-6117. Lastly a social meeting will be held on the 9th at 7pm all are welcome to attend.
March is a quiet time at the club with only one event on the calendar Saint Patrick’s Day Party is being hosted by Rick Ziezer and myself. The evening will begin at 6:30 with a cash bar and professional bartender. Live Irish music by the Ed Russell Band will play from 7 till 10 and a hot buffet of corned beef, cabbage, potatoes with rye and soda breads. Anyone interested in bringing a desert is welcome to do so. The Social meeting will be held on the 8th at 7pm, anyone interested in helping with decorations for Saint Patrick’s Day Party is encouraged to attend.
Spring has sprung in April and on the calendar we have a Spring Dance penciled in for the 9th, the 16th is a rental, followed by a Bonfire on the 23rd hosted by Heather and Dan. The social meeting will be at 7pm on the 12th.
Finally the Kentucky Derby is on May 7th at 5pm, Best Hat Prize, hot dogs and bring a dish. Admission is free to members with a 5 dollar cover charge for guests.
The next report will be out after the Saint Patrick’s Day party. The calendar will include all of the wonderful and fun events to take place at the club over the course of the summer, including a Thistle Regatta, Duck race, Fashion show, Taco Tuesdays, Junior auction, Down Under, Welcome aboard and Game night just to name a few.
In closing, I would like to thank the membership for the support that I have received since taking office. As always feel free to call me with any suggestions or concerns you have with the social aspects of the club. I welcome your ideas, it’s your club, stay involved. Thank You.

First, I would like to thank Kathleen Cronheim for all her help in the transition process to a new treasurer. Honestly, this position is more involved than I imagined and I want everyone to know what a great job Kathleen did (both as treasurer and the turnover process) and that she continues to assist me anytime I ask.
The club changed banks and is now with Ocean First Bank. This was done to save on fees. The switchover was made and the Club can accept credit card payments for slip rentals, membership and sailing programs.
The executive committee passed a budget for 2016 and we are tracking against that budget. To ensure timely financial reporting, I have requested the timely submittal of bills and receipts from the various income generating events.
We are doing well in this regard and I look forward to everyone’s continuing support.
