Get ready for the full line-up of activities that will be occurring at the club from now until Labor Day Weekend. Starting Monday, June 26th the Junior Sailing Program will have the club crawling with children learning about boat care, how to sail those boats and for the advanced students how to race their boats. For everyone there is Sunday morning coffee and donuts, Taco Tuesdays, Wednesday adult sailing (see the individual announcement that has been sent out) and the numerous events planned for Friday and Saturday evenings. Be sure to check out the calendar along with the club website at oceangateyc.com to know what is happening and when it is happening at the club. This is your club so come on down and enjoy the fun. On August 24th thru 27th, OGYC will be hosting the Comets International Regatta. Help will be needed during that time. Please volunteer. All details will be forth coming.

I want to give special thanks for everyone that has been volunteering during the off season getting the club ready for all its members. Volunteers are what make the club the success it is. Please be courteous to all our volunteers for their efforts.

Our first open General membership meeting will be held at the club on Friday, July 14th at 7:30pm. I hope to see all of you there.

Regatta 2017- Please Volunteer by contacting Nancy Foote.

I am happy to announce that the International Championship Regatta for Comets are coming back to the club this year. The dates are Thursday August 24th and run through Sunday August 27. I am asking for help. I need housing for the sailors, as a host family all you need to offer is a bed and shower, the club will be providing Breakfast, lunch and dinner for the sailors. It is a fun way to meet new folks and have a boat in the Regatta to cheer to victory. Please let me know if you can host a team of two. Those that have hosted the before, please let me know if you would like to house the same team. If you have any questions please give me a call 856-266-3115 (Nancy). As always, I also need kitchen help, patrol boats, and clean up please let me know if you can help with this. It does take a club to run a Regatta.

Junior Sailing Regatta

On Friday, August 4th we will be hosting a sail boat regatta for sailors under the age of 19.  Last year we had approximately 200 participants at this regatta.  I am looking for someone to design the t-shirt.  The t-shirt design needs to be completed by July 19th.  I have examples of designs that we have used in previous years if you are interested in this project and want to see them before you agree to do the design.

I am looking for volunteers to help on the day of the regatta with the following jobs:

3 people to check-in the pre-registered sailors and distribute their t-shirts (8 AM – 10 AM)

3 people to take registrations from the sailors that register that morning (8 AM – 10 AM)

1 person to check-in the instructors/coaches that accompany the racers (8AM – 10AM)

12 motorboats with drivers (9:30 AM – 4:00 PM)

12 people to record sail numbers of boats as they finish (10 AM – 4:00 PM)

2 people to enter the finish data into computers (noon – 4PM)

We will also need people to help serve lunches.  More information will be provided in the next newsletter.

I will be attending the Sailing Parent’s Meeting Sunday, June 25th to answer any questions.  If you would like to contact me before then you can e-mail me at kingsofnj@comcast.net or call me at 856-234-3062.
